Heavy Duty Lighting (HDL) warranties each new product to the Original Purchaser (1), under normal use and service, to be free from defects of material and/or workmanship only, for Five Years from the date of manufacture stamped on the product (2), unless otherwise noted*. Warranties are not transferable and apply only to the original owner of the HDL product.

During this warranty period, the obligation of HDL is limited to repairing or replacing, as HDL may elect, any part or parts of such product which after examination by HDL, are found to be defective as the result of a defect in material and/or workmanship. HDL will provide warranty for any unit which is delivered, transported prepaid, to the specified HDL facility or designated authorized warranty service center for examination and such examination reveals a defect in material and/or workmanship. This warranty does not cover travel expenses, the cost of specialized equipment for gaining access to the product, or labor charges for removal and re-installation of the product.

Corroded connectors and broken or discolored lenses are not covered under warranty. Many states are using Magnesium Chloride or Calcium Chloride as de-icers, which cause severe corrosive action to electrical components. Due to the nature of our products, exposure to the elements and harsh chemicals can damage the finish. Care must be taken to ensure these products maintain their shine and finish. HDL will not be responsible for products damaged by alterations, misuse, abuse, accidents, improper installation or damage due to exposure to harsh chemicals and cleaning agents which can damage the plastics, rubber, chrome and stainless steel. Unless otherwise stated, HDL will not accept corrosion as a warranty claim. This warranty is in lieu of all other warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability and fitness for a purpose. 

  • Original Purchaser is the Distributor to whom Heavy Duty Lighting initially sold the product.
  • Some products are produced without date stamps. In the event a product was produced without a date stamp the documented Date of Purchase to the original purchaser may be required. 

*Otherwise Noted / 1 Year Warranty

Heavy Duty Lighting product group - “LED Replacement Style Bulbs” (HD1156/1157& HD3156/3157 series). Because of the design of this product (non-sealed or potted) and the multiple applications and vehicles this product is used in, it carries only a one year product warranty. With the exception of time, one year compared to five year, the warranty & returns policy for this product is the same in all other aspects as the standard HDL warranty and returns policy.

Heavy Duty Lighting product group - “Electronic LED Flashers” (HDF series). 
This product group carries only a one year product warranty. With the exception of time, one year compared to five year, the warranty & returns policy for this product is the same in all other aspects as the standard HDL warranty and returns policy.

Heavy Duty Lighting product group - “AC to DC Power Adaptor” (HDLC series). 
This product group carries only a one year product warranty. With the exception of time, one year compared to five year, the warranty & returns policy for this product is the same in all other aspects as the standard HDL warranty and returns policy.

Heavy Duty Lighting product group - “Strip Lights” (i.e. HD18027SMD-CW). 
If products are installed in exterior, under hood or HDL determined “severe” locations, this product group carries only a one year product warranty. Strip lights installed in interior locations carry HDL standard 5 year warranty. Other warranty & returns policy for this product is the same in all aspects as the standard HDL warranty and returns policy. 


Returns

In the unlikely event of a warranty claim, customers must contact HDL Customer Service Department to obtain a Return Material Authorization (RMA) number. HDL will not honor any warranty claims without proof of purchase and receipt of defective product.

In advance of return for any failed product, customers must submit a warranty claim in writing or electronic format, which includes: 

  • Date of Failure
  • Detailed Reason for Claim
  • Contact Person Name and Phone Number, Fax Number or Email Address

HDL will review the claim and if tentative approval is given a RMA number will be issued. All returning warranty claim packages must have the RMA number clearly marked on the outside of the return package and must be shipped freight prepaid. All products must be returned to the specified HDL facility or designated authorized warranty service center. Submitted products will be analyzed for cause failure, and if approved, a credit will be issued. Short pays or debit deductions are not allowed. Contested claims must be addressed in writing within 30 days of rejection notification.

Note: Warranty claims will be approved for credit if it is determined that the cause of the defect was due to manufacturing or component deficiency, and not due to abuse, installation error, mishandling, improper maintenance, worn seals or chemical attack outside the normal working environment. 

The following conditions apply to all returns:

  • New product merchandise returns within 30 days from date of invoice require Return Material Authorization (RMA) number from HDL Customer Service Department prior to sending back.  Any unopened merchandise accompanied by a RMA, within 30 days, can be returned for full refund or merchandise credit at customer’s option.  Non-warranty claims outside of 30 days are not guaranteed and will not be accepted without prior authorization from HDL.  All unauthorized returns will be refused. 
  • All approved merchandise returns, with RMA, are subject to inspection and final approval upon receipt by HDL.  Returned merchandise must be in new, resalable condition: unopened, undamaged packaging, including all components, accessories, manuals, and registration cards. Shipping charges are not refundable except for cases of shipping error by HDL.  HDL must be notified of all shipping errors within 30 days and reserves the right to choose the method of return shipment at its expense. 
  • Merchandise return requests outside of 30 days are not guaranteed and will be considered on an individual basis.  If granted, new product returns outside of 30 days may require restocking fees (to be determined).  Product returns outside of 30 days will only be allowed account credit and will require an offsetting order.  Offsetting order value will be determined at the time RMA is issued. Product returns must be shipped at the owner’s expense, freight collect. 
  • Discontinued items are not eligible for return or credit.
